It feels a little odd to be writing a “spring” article when it’s a balmy -29°C outside and my block heater cord broke today; however, the CFL schedule was announced yesterday and there are some above-zero temperatures in the forecast, so spring must be near. We hope.
Another sign of warmer weather coming is the beginning of conference season and CSHP Official kicked it off with the Annual Professional Practice Conference (PPC) February 4th to 8th. Our province had great representation not only as delegates but presenters as well. Saskatchewan speakers included Derek Jorgensen, Doug Sellinger, Bill Semchuk, and council’s very own Zack Dumont and Jennifer Bolt. CSHP SK Branch would also like to extend huge congratulations to Don Kuntz from RQHR on receiving his Fellowship Status which was recognized at PPC this year. We appreciate all Don has contributed to both CSHP as well as the profession of pharmacy.
PPC was just the beginning of the educational and networking opportunities available to CSHP SK Branch members over the coming months. Next up is the CSHP 43rd Annual Banff Seminar taking place March 17th to 19th. The theme this year is “Storytelling: Connecting Through Our Experiences” and the “storytellers” presenting will be both captivating and informative. Following shortly after is the PAS Annual Conference bringing you “Portraits of a Healthy Saskatchewan” in Saskatoon, May 5th to 7th. The CSHP SK Branch Ed Services committee also asks that you mark your calendars for our annual AGM & Educational Sessions taking place on Oct 20th and 21st in Saskatoon. Stay tuned for details!
Don’t forget that March is Pharmacy Awareness Month. CSHP’s 2017 theme is “Your Hospital Pharmacy Team: Your Trusted Medication Experts.” Check out www.cshp.ca/advocacy/pam for more details as well as the PAM Announcement and schedule of events from our Communications Chairs. This year, CSHP SK Branch challenges you to not only promote the profession of pharmacy during PAM, but to nominate yourself, a colleague or a group for the newly created Hospital Pharmacy Advancement Award (also known as PAM Award). We look forward to seeing everyone’s PAM events on Facebook (@Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists or @CSHPSaskBranch) and Twitter (@CSHP_SCPH, @CSHPSaskBranch, #PAM2017).
For those heading on a hot vacation to pass the time until it heats up here, enjoy! And for those staying in SK to endure the cold, remember, the end of winter is near.
